SQLite is not a toy database at all, and if you’re using Laravel for a whole bunch of different application types, this is a great walkthrough on the best way to set it up. Most apps aren’t doing the kind of scale where you’d absolutely need MySQL, and having your database as a single file that’s easy to back up is super handy.

I’ve been building for the internet for 20 years and in some ways I feel like I’ve abdicated my responsibility to pay back, given we stand on the shoulders of giants and I’ve hardly been able to open source anything of my own. I don’t blame him at all for stepping back from maintenance - people can be so entitled and demanding. Go hug your nearest open source maintainer.
